Quick Update and an Apology!

May 26, 2016
Oh my goodness, it has been a long time hasn't it? I am so sorry, I know I said I'd be doing bi-weekly posts but things suddenly took off and I've not been managing my time very well at all!

I pledge to do better from July. I plan on posting at least twice a week; a wee update like this, at least one craft / messy-play to try at home and a few product reviews, educational articles and days out ideas. Do you have any suggestions of what else you'd like me to cover?

There will also be a chance for guest posts - so please do let me know if you'd be interested in submitting anything.

So, what has been happening since I last wrote?

Well! The Elgin session I was about to do was a DISASTER! Oh my goodness, I was in tears for hours afterwards. I got there, no adult help, just me and Leo and the heating was broken - an hour before start time - and the lights were off and I couldn't find them (silly me didn't look behind the stage.) The session was cold, it was dark, one or two of the children were grumpy, almost all of the adults were unhappy oh it was dreadful. Well, that is how I remember it, but the photos seemed to tell a slightly more positive story and apart from one complaint, I did actually get some really nice supportive emails and repeat custom, so maybe I was just being a bit down on myself.

However, after a week of moping and threatening to throw in the towel, I had to get back out to work to a birthday party - Katie Morag theme. Oh it was super fun! I'm sure the children enjoyed it.

Then came 4 toddler groups, a school, a charity thing and 2 big "Farmyard" themed sessions - one at Elgin that, thank goodness was warm and wonderful. Plus a load of meetings and bookings for such wonderful places as the Eastgate Centre and Noah's Ark Play Cafe in Alness ... a school I already did is considering asking Messy-Ness back for something a little more mathematical next term and I'm waiting on confirmation of a few more very exciting venues for the summer and a charity I've been desperate to help for months!

So, as you can imagine, I am more than a little bit excited about what this summer has to offer!

Anyway, I'd better go, the last "Farmyard" session is on Saturday in Inverness. There is going to be all the usual, plus a box-building challenge for the slightly older children. I need to clean and disinfect all my kit from yesterday's toddler group, collect together the items for the building competition, I really shouldn't be sat here typing this!

Anyway, I promise to make this into a proper blog soon. Don't forget to let me know what you want to be reading about!

Mr Maker Has A Lot To Answer For!

April 15, 2016
(Disclaimer - Mr Maker is wonderful, this is a little tongue in cheek!)

Once again I seem to have chosen the worst possible weekend for the Inverness Messy-Ness session!

I've had more than 10 families tell me they can't come to Messy-Ness because they're seeing Mr. Makeer - oooooohhhhhh I'm cross with him! (Not least because if I'd realised when planning this, I'd be there watching him, instead of working!!!)

How can people choose a celebrity crafter chap off the telly over a Messy-Ness session...

How To Make Super Slime

April 13, 2016
So, this is the third time I have tried to post this blog - the other 2 disappeared off into cyber-space never to be seen again. Third time lucky?

I adore this slime and it weirdly seems to be more popular the older you get, sure the babies love it, but this particular slime even got an 82 year old man playing at a recent charity session!

This slime is not edible, so keep it out of babies mouths. (Edible slime coming soon - watch this space!)

You will need:
  • 1 tsp Borax + 1 cup Water
  • ½ cup PVA glu...

Spring Celebration in Alness

April 11, 2016
Goodness me Alness was quiet, never known a session with so few people - remind me never to book a session on the last Saturday of the Easter holidays again!

I was very proud of my trays and I think the kids liked them. I especially liked my forager's salad bowl.

But of course, the kiddies preferred the coloured rice - don't they always! This week we went for blue and yellow rice with a sweetpea scent.

The other trays included "frogspawn", "lambs", "squeezy beetles" and orange scented play-dou...

How To Make Squeezy Bath Beetles

April 11, 2016

These cute little fellows are an incredibly gentle soap substitute which is not only amazingly moisturising, but also helps sooth eczema and chicken-pox! They are so mild they can be used with newborn babies and they take 2 minutes to make.

You Will Need:

  • An old pair of tights, stockings or a muslin bag

  • Some porridge oats

  • Lavender and Chamomile essential oil (don’t add oils for tiny babies)

To Make:

  • Cut a length of stocking about 15cm long.

  • Tie a knot in one end.

  • Pour 1 cup of oats in.

  • Add a few dr...

All's Quiet On The Alness Front.

April 8, 2016
Tomorrow looks like it is going to be an incredibly quiet day. No wonder really, I stupidly forgot to ensure the advertising posters and tickets were sent to the community centre. I feel such a fool and I am embarrassed to call up the lovely lady there and apologise.

Nevertheless, it is going to be a good session and at least it means I'll get chance to chat to the mummies and daddies, hopefully get a few good pictures - I really should be updating my website instead of writing this!

Tomorrow ...
